Test Technician - Electrical Panels and Hybrid Power Systems


Job Title: Test Technician - Electrical Panels and Hybrid Power Systems

Location: Medway City Estate, Rochester, Kent

Salary: £21k - £24k dependant on experience + company pension & healthcare  (Temp to perm potentially)

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent. 28 days holiday including bank holidays, increasing with length of service.

Job Role:

In your role as Test Technician you will be required to test and verify that assembled Electrical Power Distribution Control Panels are manufactured in accordance with the design drawings and function as designed and specified in the electrical specification.

  • Verification manufactured Control Panels comply with GA drawings.
  • Electrical test of each Control Panel in accordance with the test specification.
  • Preparation of test specifications when one does not exist.
  • Utilising generic test specification where appropriate.
  • Maintenance of  test specifications for each Control Panel.
  • Working with ES Engineering, refine, improve and update test procedures.
  • To work with production and planning to perform the test activity in accordance with a defined plan
  • To reject panels with faults and return to them to the build engineers for correction.
  • Verify that Control Panel drawings are of the latest issue. If not, to print out a  new ‘as built’ drawings set and substitute. If these are unavailable, to include an ‘IOU’ note and notify manager so that drawings; when ready, can be sent.
  • Check if there were any photographs of the panel in the ‘build pack’ and if they are up to date. If none, or out of date, write file name and extension on change order sheet so that photos can be linked by Administrative support.
  • To complete a change note form to identify any issues seen through test.
  • Complete and store Panel approval certificates.
  • Formally approve and release for inspection certified Control Panels.
  • Fix copy of test procedure to work order.
  • Note time and date that unit completed test on work order


Additional Responsibilities

  • To maintain a tidy and safe test area
  • To ensure that all necessary test equipment is available for upcoming works orders.
  • To review test procedures, record keeping and other procedures in light of any issues raised
  • To comply with all company H&S procedures.
  • Minimal rework of faults identified on Control Panels.


Your Qualities

  • HND in Electrical Engineering equivilant
  • Minimum 2 plus years work experience. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office packages.
  • Good organisational skills
  • At home multitasking
  • Attention to detail is imperative in this role.
  • Comfortable working to planned deadlines.
  • Previous knowledge of working with Power Distribution Control Panels.
  • Good understanding of Electrical schematic drawings

Job Title: Panel Wireman

Location: Medway City Estate, Rochester, Kent

Salary: £20k - £24k p.a depending on experience + company pension & healthcare

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent. Hours: 8am – 4pm


Energy Solutions designs, manufactures and sells energy management and control systems into the marine, off grid, vehicle and industrial markets and is the UK distributor for a number of well-known brands in the power industry including Victron and JCB. They work with customers such as Sunseeker, Fairline, RNLI, BBC and Vodafone helping them get the right power and control products for their projects.


Job Role:

An experienced Panel Wireman is required to join Energy Solutions busy workshop, where you will become part of a dynamic team who all strive to excel in every aspect of their roles and responsibilities. You will play an important part in ensuring their products are built to a high standard and function correctly first time.

Previous experience of building electrical panels is essential as well as a good understanding of electrical and mechanical schematics.  Alongside building panels you will on occasion be required to undertake testing and inspection of a variety of panels built by other personnel. Some experience of PCB assembly would be an advantage.

Computer skills, with some experience using Microsoft office products, would be an advantage in this technical role coupled with an interest and aptitude for electrical systems.
