National recognition for EasyGrid battery storage and energy management

EasyGrid has received national recognition at the 2026 National Energy Efficiency Awards, taking second place in the National Product of the Year category.

Our entry, EasyGrid with HEMs, brings together battery energy storage and an integrated Hybrid Energy Management System. It is designed to help customers reduce unnecessary generator use and make better use of the power available on their sites.

For the people responsible for keeping those sites running, the useful question is what that means in practice.

Reducing avoidable generator use

If your site depends on a generator, you need enough capacity to handle the busiest periods. The challenge is that demand changes. Equipment starts and stops, people finish work, and some circuits are needed only at particular times.

A generator can continue running through those quieter periods even when the site needs relatively little power. That adds to fuel consumption, running hours and noise.

EasyGrid stores electricity in its batteries and supplies site loads from that stored energy when conditions allow. The generator can then run when the batteries need charging or demand requires it.

This approach is particularly relevant to plant hire companies and organisations operating construction, infrastructure, industrial and temporary power sites. It gives them a practical way to reduce diesel use while meeting the demands of the work taking place.

Managing the way power is used

Battery capacity is one part of that approach. The integrated energy management determines how the system responds as conditions change.

HEMS monitors site demand, battery condition and the energy sources available. It uses that information to manage generator start and stop settings and control the supply to connected loads.

Individual outlets can be scheduled independently. Essential circuits can be prioritised, and non-essential loads can be switched off when required. Quiet-period settings allow the batteries to be prepared in advance for times when the generator should remain off.

For example, a site may need some equipment during working hours while other circuits remain important overnight. Configuring the controls around that pattern helps avoid supplying power to equipment that no longer needs it.

Remote monitoring gives operators visibility of the system and its performance without needing to be beside the unit. It also allows authorised users to adjust settings as site requirements change.

Where EasyGrid forms part of a microgrid, it provides battery storage and integrated energy management within the wider local power system. Its configuration needs to reflect the other power sources and loads on that site.

What the deployment evidence showed

Our award submission included a 30-day analysis of ten deployed 45 kVA EasyGrid units operated by a plant hire company across different sites.

The analysis reported average diesel savings of 1,742 litres per unit during that period. Individual savings ranged from 837 litres to 2,515 litres, reflecting the different demands and operating profiles of the sites.

Those figures relate to the ten units and the period analysed. The savings achievable on another site depend on its demand, generator size, operating hours and system configuration.

For anyone considering battery storage, the range of results reinforces the need to look carefully at the application. Understanding when power is required, how much is needed and which loads can be controlled helps determine the appropriate system and how it should operate.

Supporting the people using the system

A system also needs to be practical for the team responsible for it. Following installation and commissioning, Energy Solutions provides product training covering routine operation, preventative maintenance and first-line troubleshooting.

Customers are shown how to use remote monitoring to review performance and identify potential issues. Our technical support team can assist with diagnostics and configuration, with specialist intervention available where required.

For a hire company, that knowledge helps its own team support customers throughout a rental. For the organisation using the equipment, it provides access to people who understand how the battery, controls and generator work together.

This support is part of making the technology useful throughout its working life.

Recognition shared with our customers and team

The National Energy Efficiency Awards took place at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole on Friday 9 October. It is encouraging to see EasyGrid recognised among products helping to improve energy efficiency across the UK.

Thank you to our engineers, production and service teams, and to the customers and hire partners who work with us. Developing, deploying and supporting a system like EasyGrid depends on that combined effort.

We’re pleased to share this result with them and to see national recognition for a practical approach to site power.

Explore a more efficient approach to site power

If you operate a site or supply temporary power to customers, we can help you assess where battery storage and integrated energy management could reduce unnecessary generator use.

The starting point is your operating requirements, including demand throughout the day, available power sources, essential loads and any quiet periods. From there, we can consider the appropriate battery capacity and control settings for the application.
