Production Manager / Production Engineer

Job Title: Production Manager / Production Engineer

Location: Rochester, Kent (Some travel will be required, pool car supplied)

Salary: £35K - £45k depending on experience + company pension scheme & healthcare.

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent. Standard hours 8am – 4pm Monday to Friday, although work outside of these hours will be required as well.

Holiday: 28 days per year including Bank Holidays, rising with length of service


Job Role:

A technically capable Production Manager / Production Engineer is required to join our busy production workshop which builds electrical and control panels for marine, specialist vehicles and off-grid clients.

The role will consist of providing direct man management of production and support staff, managing stock levels and developing a continuous improvement program with respect to quality and productivity.

Our production department builds a variety of electrical panels to customer’s designs and to their own designs. Many of these builds are one offs.


The role of the Production Manager / Production Engineer is summarised as:

Enabling the workshop to produce high quality electrical builds that are tested correctly and built on time. To assist the team in improving productivity at the same time as improving skills and multi-disciplinary abilities. To work with our suppliers to ensure that they receive accurate, timely and high quality parts for our workshop to use.

Excellent communication skills and a proactive and resourceful management style are essential in this role.


Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • To evaluate working methods in production and administration to ensure maximum productivity
  • To understand and investigate issues with Bills of Materials (BOM’s) and co-ordinate with Engineering to resolve
  • To assist with resolving shortages of materials which may include alternate parts
  • To understand times taken for jobs and develop metrics for evaluating group and individual performance
  • To develop methods for production planning and scheduling that give better visibility of delivery dates and capacity
  • To track quality issues from suppliers and within their builds and develop reporting methods so patterns and costs are more visible
  • To monitor ‘make vs buy’ opportunities that will allow flexibility in the workplace
  • To develop new working practices that will increase the productivity of their workshop
  • To manage the recruitment, training schedule and development of their apprentices
  • To manage the recruitment and development of the production and support staff
  •  Overseeing the ordering or materials
  • Overseeing the issuing of materials to production
  • To co-ordinate with Sales to best schedule work that can be done against priorities identified by sales

Automotive Electrical Systems Technical Sales  

Job Title: Automotive Electrical Systems Technical Sales  

Location: From Home and on occasion at Medway City Estate, Rochester, Kent. Work will include UK and International travel.

Salary: £38-40k, (dependant on experience), company car, phone, company pension & healthcare

Job Role: A technical salesperson is required to join our busy sales team to provide pre- and after-sales advice, in particular for our Specialist Vehicle division. 

Here at Energy Solutions we design, manufacture and sell energy management and control systems into the marine, off grid, vehicle and industrial markets and are the UK distributor for a number of well-known brands in the power industry.  

The role would consist of offering technical knowledge / advice to clients about the bespoke products and systems the company has to offer and then raising quotes to meet their needs.


Typical activities will include:-

  • acquiring new clients not currently purchasing from the business
  • managing existing accounts and increasing existing sales turnover with added value sales including engineering support and additional products.
  • discussing a client’s project so that you fully understand their needs
  • preparing client quotations
  • meeting regular sales targets and co-ordinating sales projects
  •  providing pre-sales technical assistance and product education, and after-sales support services
  •  liaising with other members of the sales team and other technical experts
  •  developing long-term relationships with clients through managing and interpreting their requirements
  • matching a client’s requirements to a product or service best satisfies their needs in terms of quality, price and delivery
  • supporting marketing activities by attending trade shows, conferences and other marketing events
  • making technical presentations and demonstrating how a product meets client needs


The successful candidate will have to liaise with staff members from other departments within the company. The company will provide internal and external product training.

The successful candidate will ideally come from the specialist automotive sector and have strong existing relationships with businesses in the sector. They will also have strong organisational skills and be able to prioritise enquiries. An understanding of electrical principles (both AC and DC) is key to being able to offer advice on the products we handle.

Stores Person / Warehouse Supervisor

Job Title: Stores Person

Location: Medway City Estate, Rochester, Kent.

Salary: £22,000pa

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent

The Company designs, manufactures and sells energy management and control systems into the marine, off grid, vehicle and industrial markets and is the UK distributor for a number of well-known brands in the power industry including Victron and JCB.  They work with customers such as Sunseeker, Fairline, RNLI, BBC and Vodafone helping them get the right power and control products for their projects.


The Role:

An opportunity has become available for an experienced Stores Person, with industrial or manufacturing experience, to join the team at a crucial point in the businesses’ growth with the opportunity to change and modernise the stores facility.

The successful candidate will be an integral part of the operations team reporting to the Production Administrator and working directly with the dispatch and production team.


Job duties:

  • Working in a team in a well-run good in, dispatch and stores department
  • Sourcing parts, physical lifting and initially reviewing the stores
  • Modernisation and improvement to the stores management


Key Requirements:

  • Previous engineering, industrial or manufacturing stores experience
  • The ability to work pro-actively in a structured team environment
  • Forklift truck experience
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Must be willing and able to work within a team and use their own initiative
  • Good communication skills
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Computer literate – Microsoft packages (outlook, Excel), experience of operating an MRP systems would be useful.
